Be Who You Are

This weekend, Pastor Jack shared some words that resonated as we celebrated the “Festival of the Baptism of Our Lord.” He quoted the head football coach of the Clemson Tiger’s national championship team, Dabo Swinney. Reportedly, as Swinney’s underdog team headed onto the field, the coach affirmed them by simply saying, “Be who you are.”

Reflecting on our own baptism and recalling that we too are called the beloved of God, perhaps we can hear God sending us forward in mission speaking to us: “Be who you are.” Who are we? We are part of God’s family, God’s team. We are loved, we are affirmed, we are equipped, and we can be confident that God is with us and for us. We are forgiven, we are free, and we are gifted. We can go out in confidence knowing who we are by remembering whose we are.

This coming weekend we celebrate who we are as Our Savior Lutheran Church as we meet between Sunday Services (9:45 in the Sanctuary) for an Annual Congregational Meeting. The meeting includes affirming a new purpose and vision statement, adopting a ministry spending plan for 2019, and the formation of a Call Committee.

Thank you, OSLC, for being who you are, a family of faith that is beloved of God. As we sang in Gospel Acclamation, “You belong to Christ, in whom you have been baptized. Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia!”

Gratefully, Pastor Mark
