A Note from Pastor Shelly
May
There are so many ways to grow together in God and in our experience and understanding of God’s love, no matter what age we are—child to adult. Here are a few resources in this direction:
Last month’s newsletter article featured an interview with Allan Klotsche regarding the Diakonia program, a 2-year lay education program that offers participants in-depth study on subjects such as , New Testament, Old Testament, Worship, Christian Ethics, Church History, and more. Several people have expressed interest in joining Allan in the program. An informational meeting with Allan Klotsche and Pr. Shelly will be held Sunday, June 1 st at 10:45AM (following worship) in Room 4.
Several people have asked me about a new monthly publication called “The Little Lutheran.” “The Little Lutheran” is a monthly 24-page picture book designed by The Lutheran Magazine for children ages 6 and younger. We have a subscription at the church and if you’d like to see what an issue is like, look in the children’s worship activity bags on the table outside of the sanctuary. Our daughter is 2 ½ and she thinks these little books are great. If you have a child or grandchild under 6, a subscription to the “Little Lutheran” could be a great gift.
And while I’m on the subject of book recommendations, here’s one for those who are over age six. If you’ve ever wanted a place to find some down-to-earth, everyday language definitions to some of those words that get used in church or in theological discussions, words like ascension, apocalypse, agnosticism, here’s a good book: “Crazy Talk: A Not-so-stuffy Dictionary of Theological Terms,” editor, Rolf A. Jacobsen. I’ve been reading this book one entry at a time and wish I would have had this book long ago (back in seminary!).
Those are a few resources that have been before me lately. How about you, what books, conversations, and experiences have you been in lately that have impacted your faith?
Grace and Peace,
Pastor Shelly |
