Our Savior Lutheran Church experienced a surge this past weekend!
On Saturday, an electrical surge threw breakers, disrupted our sound system, and created a few other minor challenges, some of which were discovered even as evening worship was underway! We smiled our way through all the distractions! By Sunday’s late service, all was finally under control, and that’s when an emergency alert signal came through a hundred or more cell phones right in the middle of our Eucharistic Prayer. With no immediate danger signaled, again, we smiled our way through worship. One weekend worshiper quipped, “Do you think the Spirit is trying to tell us something?”
I do think the Spirit was speaking in beautiful ways this past weekend, but not necessarily through the electrical surge. I think it was through the 49 kids who were in Sunday School! 49 children and youth! That’s a record for us this year! In our gospel reading we heard that “people” were bringing little children to Jesus for a blessing. I asked the kids on Sunday who “the people” are that bring them to Jesus today. Immediately, they answered “parents, grandparents, and teachers.” Thanks to all who, together with Jesus, embrace our little ones at OSLC!
The Spirit was also surging in Adult Sunday School and in a Church Council Retreat Sunday afternoon. Both groups are engaging in discussions on “Future Directions: Let Your Light Shine” as our congregation reaffirms our purpose, vision, and values. Thank you to all participants and leaders together we continue to discern the Holy Spirit surging us forward in faith.
And thank you to all who partner in sharing and supporting our life as church!
