Words Worth Repeating
“The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who lived in the land of deep darkness – on them light has shined.” These words, first offered by the prophet Isaiah, and then repeated in the Gospel of Matthew, echo the unfolding and unending promise of God to bring light into every darkness.
Zebulun and Naphtali were two of Isaac’s twelve sons who shared is selling the youngest brother, Joseph, in to slavery. They carried that dark sin for years. But God’s light shone forth through the forgiveness of Joseph who refused to repay evil with evil. Generations later, in the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, the incarnate light of God shone forth in Jesus Christ, the Light of the world, who not only took on the darkness of his day, but who also took upon himself the darkness of the sins of the world.
In our generation, the dark ways of sin, death, and evil continue within and around us. But the Light of Christ shines through. In Jesus, forgiveness is found, prayers are answered, and hope brightens every day. And God’s children sing: “I want to walk as child of the light, I want to follow Jesus.” In the week to come, may the light of God shine upon you and through you for the sake of others.
Blessings, Pastor Mark
