On this 10th of the 12 days of Christmas, “the Holidays” are about behind us. For the church year, that means we enter the season of Epiphany (on Wednesday Jan. 6). The Epiphany message is that the Christmas message of God’s Love and Light coming into the world is a message for all nations.
This past weekend I came across an article in a recent theological journal that said to me that “Epiphany” is still happening today in a remarkable way! The article was entitled, “Rabbis Term Church a Divine ‘Partner'”! The article began, “A statement by a group of Orthodox rabbis call Christianity part of a divine plan in which God would have Jews and Christians work together to redeem the world.” Later in the article the group of rabbis said, “We acknowledge that Christianity is neither an accident nor an error, but the willed divine outcome and gift to the nations”. Did you get that! “To the nations”! As our bulletin cover said this past weekend, “On this day (Epiphany) we celebrate the revelation of Christ to the Gentiles–that is, to all nations”!! And the Epiphany story continues yet today! May God’s Light shine upon all of us in this New Year that lies ahead.
For us at Our Savior, we celebrate the day of Epiphany (this Wednesday Jan 6) with the resuming of our Wednesday morning Bible study at 10am, Bells at 5:30 pm, Choir at 7 pm plus supper at 6pm and a bonfire with the Youth Group for all around 7pm. Busy, exciting times in the life of Our Savior.
We also have two new women’s groups starting: a new Women’s Monthly Book Club. Read and discuss books with other women from the church–organizational meeting is Tuesday, January 12 at 5pm in the Garden Room (contact Ashley Boyle for more information, 772-453-5668; email@example.com). Also, a new Woman’s Bible Study, “Discerning the Voice of God,” starting Monday, January 11, 6:30pm in the Quiet Room. A study guide is needed for this group (contact Nancy Ogonoski to order your copy, firstname.lastname@example.org). And finally, for all of our seasonal folks, here’s a “Welcome back” song dedicated to you! “Oh the weather up north is frightful, but down here it’s so delightful. Since you really know where to go, let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!”
See you in church! Pastor Jack Diehl +
