Happy Thanksgiving! There’s a buzz in the air. “The holidays” are beginning. And they begin with a time for us as a country to give thanks. I love Thanksgiving because it is a an opportunity for everyone, across all kinds of religious, cultural and political lines to simply give thanks.
For Indian River County there will be a community wide Thanksgiving service at St. Sebastian Catholic Church on Tuesday evening at 7pm.
For us at Our Savior we will be setting up on Wednesday at 1pm for our Thanksgiving Home Alone Dinner which will be held at noon on Thanksgiving Day in the Fellowship Hall. Anytime Wednesday would also be a good time for anyone who would be able to bring by pies for our dinner…pumpkin, fruit, whatever!
Our “Home Alone” Thanksgiving Dinner (don’t be home alone, come and celebrate Thanksgiving dinner with us) will begin with a brief Thanksgiving service in the Fellowship Hall for all gathered before the dinner begins.
Thanksgiving weekend then marks the first weekend in the season of Advent, the beginning of a new church year! Of all of the things going on at this time of the year in preparation for Christmas, being in worship during the upcoming 4 weekends in Advent, is one of the best ways to stay centered and focused on the true meaning of this wonderful season. The church will take on some new decorations, including the return of a quilt in our narthex which our ladies made with symbols of the church year.
May this week be filled with Thanksgiving and safe travels for all travelers.
