This Our Savior E-news goes out as the whole world still has the terrorist attacks in Paris on our hearts. Feelings of anger, unbelief, sadness, revenge, disgust…they are all bubbling up in all kinds of ways. In the Gospel this past weekend we heard Jesus talk about “wars and rumors of wars” and “nation rising up against nation, kingdom against kingdom”. And again, that is what we have experienced in a very real way. But in the middle of all of that, God still speaks: I am with you always; my Light is stronger than the darkness; my Love is stronger than hate; my Life is stronger than death.
So what are we to do? From the words of our second reading from Hebrews yesterday: “Let us hold fast to the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who has promised is faithful. And let us consider how to provoke one another to love and good deeds, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another…”. That’s what we can do.
And speaking of meeting together, along with worship, which is primary to who we are and what we do, this Wednesday’s supper will be a potluck! If you can bring a dish to pass, that would be great. Supper starts at 6pm.
Then this coming Saturday, Nov. 21 we have a Giant Bake Sale from 8am-1pm! Come and get some goodies to eat now or freeze and save for Thanksgiving or Christmas! New Our Savior Cookbooks will also be available for the first time at the Bake Sale for only $10. Sounds like a good Christmas gift idea. From 8:30-10:30am the VNA will be giving flu shots. If you can contribute to the bake sale, please bring by any baked goods on Friday between 10am and 6pm. Sounds like a great event not to miss!
Finally, Advent begins Sunday November 29, Thanksgiving weekend! If you would like to give, as a gift or memorial, the 4 Blue Advent Candles, which we will be lighting each Sunday in Advent, counting down to Christmas, the cost is $50. Please reply to this email or contact the church office (772-567-2253). Thanks!
For other opportunities to “provoke one another to love and good deeds” and “not neglect to meet together” please check out our website at www.oursaviorelca.com. You can also go to our website to watch our worship services either live streamed at 11am on Sunday, or anytime after that at your convenience.
Have a blessed week! See you in church! Pastor Jack Diehl +
