An ending and a beginning! This past weekend, the church year came to an end, as we got a glimpse at the end of the story, Jesus the King in all his glory. This coming Thanksgiving Weekend (Happy Thanksgiving everyone!) Advent begins, the start of a new church year. Not only will we be able to observe the season of Advent during worship on Saturday evenings and Sunday mornings, but on Sunday evening, December 7. at 7pm, there will be a very special “Advent Lessons and Carols” service entitled: “Bonhoeffer: The Mystery of Holy Night”. This will include reflections on Advent and Christmas from Bonhoeffer which he wrote in the last two years of his life while in prison, along with some beautiful music and carols from around the world both old and new. This will be a wonderful opportunity to not only experience Advent and prepare for Christmas in a very special way but also would be a great time to bring some friends and introduce them to Our Savior!
Yet another way to walk through the season of Advent is by using the devotions in the following download. This includes devotions from our own Bishop Elizabeth Eaton along with devotions from other bishops from Canada and the Episcopal church. This will be a great email to keep handy for daily reading.
May this new season be one of hope, promise and eager anticipation as we look forward to the celebration of the coming of the Christ child and the peace and love He brings during the Christmas Season and beyond.
See you in church! Pastor Jack Diehl + www.oursaviorelca.com
